The Lackawanna Chapter of the Railway & Locomotive Historical Society (R&LHS) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the importance of the Delaware, Lackawanna & Western Railroad in the northeastern United States. The Chapter’s efforts have included attempting to facilitate the relocation of the Lackawanna Camelback steam locomotive #952, currently displayed at the National Museum of Transportation in St. Louis, MO, to Steamtown NHS. The Chapter partners with other local historical societies to ensure the preservation of Lackawanna and other historical rolling stock and working to further the restoration of train service on the Lackawanna Cutoff. A new project has been adopted, the restoration of a WWII Troop Sleeper, located at Steamtown NPS. A Maine Central caboose has been donated to the Chapter and it will be moved to Steamtown NPS in the near future. The Chapter meets quarterly at various locations in the former Lackawanna Railroad Service territory, including the Lackawanna/CNJ Union Station in Phillipsburg, NJ, Steamtown NPS, Tobyhanna Station and the Electric City Trolley Museum. Join us during this exciting time of increased Chapter activity!
